It creates a friendly, communal atmosphere where you end up meeting people from all over the world. I was lucky enough to share a table with a group of elderly German locals who were incredibly warm and welcoming, happily enjoying their time at the restaurant.

If you are visiting during peak times, try to arrive early or be prepared to wait a little for a table. If you do not want to sit down, the takeaway sausage option is a great alternative.
